Registry Manager © 2008

(Help / Support)

Known Problems :

If you browse to a key with over 200  values and let Registry Manager begin to display the values and then, before Registry Manager finishes displaying all the values you navigate to another key Registry Manager will initilally continue to add the values it had not yet displayed to the new view (seemingly enumerating under the new location).

Registry manager will identify this condition once it has finished displaying the values it had started to display and eventually correct the view.

Known Limitations :

Cannot re-order security priviledges. Prevents easy administration of security settings.

Outstanding

Resolved Problems :

The verification mode of Registry Manager was broken in Trial Release versions lower than v20.2.2009R13 this only effects the Trial Version.

Verify Mode Fixed - New Version Released

The 64 bit version of Registry manager (trial version v21.12.2008.R11) incorrectly identified some keys as being access denied.

The incorrect passing of a DWORD value when marshalling parameters for cross thread calling causes this executable image to become corrupted during runtime. Any users who have downloaded this trial version of Registry Manager should delete it immidiately and download the latest release. This error only effects the Trial version of Registry Manager, no production users are effected.

New Version Released!

Release v21.1.2007.8  (only) is prone to crashing due to a previously undiscovered issue relating to the loading of the registry naming configuration. This error was missed in testing because the application was incorrectly tested within the debugging environment and the error only occurs outside the debugging environment. A new release version will be shipped to all customers.

New Version Released

Identified bug in the 'Anti-Virus Methods' which could lead to incorrect encoding of unicode string values when making changes to registry strings.

Patched,

When clicking on a value in the list, the screen will show a "x out of n Value(s)" selected message. However, when the selection is cleared entirely, the message reverts to just the text "Value(s)" but does not display the correct value count (it is always zero).

A serious bug has been discovered by KVK Consultancy in its Registry Manager relating to changes made to REG_SZMULTI  values with both Automatic Conversion and Anti-Virus methods enabled (enabled by default). Not all releases of registry manager will be effected by this bug and very few users should  be seriously effected due to the unlikelyhood of intended wide ranging changes being made to critical REG_SZMULTI values.

KVK Consultancy acknowledges that this bug constitutes a serious risk against registry integrity  for expert users as their are several critical system level REG_SZMULTI values (including but not limited to Filter Driver lists, Security Package lists, the Boot-Execute list, the Paging File list and the Hardware ID lists in the hardware database) which could  potentially be effected in a system wide search and replace operation or a verify operation if those values contain data found in the search string to be replaced.

KVK Consultancy has identified and corrected this bug and will mail out new versions to effected customers. KVK Consultancy is not aware of any users yet effected by this bug but appologises for this bug having slipped past product testing.

Enhanced the value data parser to correctly parse incorrectly formatted registry strings. This also corrects a bug which caused non-terminated strings to be displayed followed by garbage. All strings in the registry should be terminated, it is however notably alarming how non-terminated strings are on the increase
